IT Specialist (Data Engineer)

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Information Technology (OIT). As a IT Specialist (Data Engineer), GS-2210-13, you will serve as a Data Engineer responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure for collecting, storing, and transforming raw data into accessible, usable information for data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders across CMS. AND 4.) Problem Solving - identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND In order to qualify for the GS-13, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: (1) Designing enterprise-scale data infrastructure, including databases, data warehouses, and cloud-based storage solutions to support large-scale analytics and mission-critical operations. AND (2) Building automated Extract, Transform, Load (ETL)/ Extract, Load, Transform (ELT) data pipelines to integrate data from multiple internal and external sources into centralized repositories, ensuring data consistency, reliability, and scalability. AND (3) Developing disaster recovery and backup protocols for enterprise data systems to ensure business continuity and uninterrupted data availability. AND (4) Collaborating with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to define data engineering standards, resolve complex technical challenges, and align data infrastructure solutions with organizational strategic goals. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
